Street Theatre project
Through it's Bilateral Project Budget the British Embassy in Santo Domingo has signed a co-operation agreement for a Street Theatre project with the “Abriendo Camino” Foundation, design to keep young children of drugs and of the streets.
Abriendo Camino has been working in Villas Agricolas, a poor community located in the north of Santo Domingo since 2003, providing a place for the kid to go after school there they get help with homework, take additional classes to compensate the knowledge they receive in the public education system. There kids also have access to a library, a computer lab, psychologist and supervision by qualified teachers.
“Barrios” such as Villas Agricolas are heavily affected by drugs and violence, to the point that children as young as 4 years old would recognise when a person is under the influence.
