Child Protection project
This project is a joint effort between the British Embassy in Santo Domingo and the Dominican Supreme Court will. The main objective is to provide video recording facilities for child witness interviews and training to help Dominican authorities to increase conviction rates for those accused of child sexual exploitation, while reducing re-victimisation.
This Centre will prevent child victims to attend court to give their testimony, so that the child will not be re-victimised by the Judicial System. Doing that we can also increase the possibility that Dominican families come forward and denounce such crimes. The centre will provided the video recording of the interview of the child done by a certified psychologist to court. This video evidence is already admissible in court according to a Supreme Court resolution approved on January 2008.
